BIOGRAPHY



Nikolay Kazansky - opera singer, bass-baritone.


Born in Moscow. In 1996, he graduated from the actors' faculty of Russian Academy of Theater Art (GITIS).


In 2002, he graduated from the vocal faculty of the Moscow State Conservatory (Yu.A. Grigoriev's class),

as well as postgraduate studies at the Moscow State Conservatory (2004).


Since 1999, he has been a trainee of the opera company of the Bolshoi Theater of Russia, and since 2001,

he has been a soloist.


The singer's repertoire includes more than 80 bass and baritone opera roles - from baroque and belcanto

(Handel, Bellini and Donizetti) to 20th century music (Weinberg, Butsko and Desyatnikov).

He worked with such outstanding conductors as Evgeny Svetlanov, Yury Temirkanov, Mikhail Pletnev,

Teodor Currentzis, Alexander Vedernikov, Stefano Montanari, Tugan Sokhiev, Eugene Kohn.


Participated in productions by Peter Stein, Dmitry Chernyakov, Robert Wilson, Francesca Zambello,

Peter Konwitschny, Eymuntas Nyakroshyus, Rimas Tuminas, Kirill Serebrennikov.


Nikolay Kazansky tours in Russia and abroad.

In 2012, performed the part of Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor) at the Latvian National Opera.


In 2018, Malyuta Skuratov (The Tsar’s Bride) at the Shanghai Grand Theatre (Bolshoi’s tour to China,

conductor Tugan Sokhiev). In March 2019, he took part in concert performances of Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera

The Maid of Pskov and Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades (Bolshoi’s tour to France, conductor Tugan Sokhiev).


In the 2018/2019 season, he took part in the concerts of Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov in Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg and Moscow on the stage of the State Kremlin Palace.


In 2019, he gave a series of recitals in Seoul (South Korea).


In February 2020, he took part in a concert performance of Pagliacci at the Zaryadye Hall in Moscow

(part of Tonio, Evgeny Svetlanov State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia, conductor Mikhail Tatarnikov).


In 2022, he took part in the production of Khovanshchina (part of Ivan Khovansky) on the

Cathedral Square of the Astrakhan Kremlin (The Russian Operas in the Astrakhan Kremlin project).


With the MGSO Orchestra conducted by Ivan Rudin, he performed the parts of Lanciotto Malatesta in a concert performance of S. Rachmaninov's opera Francesca da Rimini (in 2021 - Gradara (Italy),

in 2022 - Ragnit Castle in Neman (Kaliningrad Region) at the International Classical Music Festival Cantata).


Since 2019, he has been teaching at the Faculty of Arts of Moscow State University, and since 2022 he has been a senior lecturer at the vocal faculty of the Moscow State Conservatory.
